Crockery, glassware, water boilers and hog roasts delivered to Widnes from our depot in Netherley, about 6 miles away with no river to cross. WA8 delivery and collection is £100 ex VAT in either van.
Yes. Widnes is one of the closest towns to our depot at Wheathill Industrial Estate in Netherley, L27 0YA, about 6 miles by road to the middle of WA8. We stay on the north bank of the Mersey the whole way, so there is no bridge and no toll on a Widnes job. Depending on the address, the run is usually via the A5300 or the A562.
That matters more than it sounds. A short local trip keeps every Widnes postcode on our minimum delivery charge, and the quote is worked out from the actual route to your address, not a zone price.
We deliver the full range across Widnes and Halton's north bank: white hotel porcelain and cutlery in tens, glassware by the crate, table linen, trestles, water boilers, chafing dishes, hot cupboards, fridges, and outdoor cooking kit such as hog roasts, LPG griddles and paella pans. Build a list on the site, or ring 0151 230 1600 and choose option 2, and you'll have a written quote within one working day. Nothing is charged until you accept it.
Because the distance is short enough that each visit sits on our £50 minimum, and a delivery plus a collection is two visits. Here is the working, so you can check it.
We charge each visit on road miles there and back: £1.50 a mile in the small Citroën Dispatch van, or £2.00 a mile in the Citroën Relay Luton with the tail-lift. WA8 is about 6 miles each way, so one visit is roughly 12 road miles. In the Luton that is about £24, and in the small van about £18. Both are under £50, so each visit is charged at £50, and delivery and collection together come to £100 ex VAT.
The same thing happens out to WA5. Penketh and Great Sankey are around 11 miles from us, which is 22 miles a visit, or £44 in the Luton. Still under the minimum. The Luton only goes above £50 a visit once a job is more than about 12.5 miles from L27, and the small van not until about 16.7 miles. Nothing in Widnes gets close.
So for Widnes the van choice doesn't change the delivery figure. It still matters for planning, because one large item puts the whole load in the Luton: an oven, a fridge, a hot cupboard, a bar, a hog roast, a BBQ or trestle tables. The other figures that can move the price are time on site and dates:
The full rules are on our delivery page.
Widnes and its neighbours are all on our side of the Mersey, so none of these routes carries a toll. Every district here sits on the £50 minimum per visit, so delivery and collection is £100 whichever van comes.
Figures cover delivery and collection, ex VAT: each visit is £1.50 a mile in the Citroën Dispatch or £2.00 a mile in the Luton, on the road miles there and back, with a £50 minimum a visit. Loading and unloading is £12.50 per started half hour, and tolls, parking and permits are added at cost. Distances are approximate from L27 0YA; your written quote uses the actual route. Collect from the depot yourself and there is no delivery charge.
All of WA8, and the three neighbouring districts that Widnes addresses most often blur into: L24, L35 and WA5. They all come out at £100 for delivery and collection.
WA8 is Widnes itself, mostly under Halton Borough Council. It covers Farnworth, Appleton, Ditton, Upton, West Bank, Hough Green and Halebank, plus Cronton, which sits on the Knowsley side of the boundary.
L24 is Hale and Speke, the stretch between Widnes and the airport. About 4 miles from the depot.
L35 is Prescot, Whiston and Rainhill in Knowsley, north of Widnes towards the M62. Also about 4 miles from us.
WA5 is Penketh, Great Sankey, Westbrook and Burtonwood, on the Warrington side. It's the furthest of the four at around 11 miles, and still on the minimum. For Warrington town and the districts beyond it, see our Warrington page.
Anything south of the river, such as Runcorn in WA7 or Daresbury in WA4, means a river crossing, with any toll passed on at cost, which we cover on the Runcorn page. If you're not sure which side of a boundary you fall, send us the postcode and we'll tell you.
Mostly family events in halls and gardens, plus the clubs, schools and community groups that run food for a crowd a few times a year. Most hires in a town like Widnes fall into four groups.
These are often booked at a few days' notice, in a church hall, a social club or the family home. The core list is short: water boilers, cups and saucers, teapots, side plates, and platters for sandwiches. The next section works through the numbers.
A function room or hall with a cold or hot buffet means plates in tens, cutlery, a few chafing dishes or a hot cupboard, and glassware for a bar run by the venue or the family.
Larger gardens with a gazebo or a small marquee, where people want food cooked on site. Hog roasts, LPG griddles and paella pans do this best.
Widnes is a rugby league town, and the season keeps clubhouses and function rooms busy with presentation nights and fundraisers. Add school fairs, and events in places such as Victoria Park with its bandstand, Spike Island or Hough Green Park. These are the jobs where the paperwork matters as much as the kit (see the Halton section below).
Two 20-litre water boilers, about 100 cups and saucers, six large teapots and two pump flasks for coffee will cover 80 people comfortably. The reason is the rush.
Everyone arrives at once after the service and most want a hot drink in the first 20 minutes. A 7oz stacking cup holds 200ml, so a 20-litre boiler fills about 100 cups to the brim, and nearer 80 once you leave room for milk. With 80 guests that's one boiler gone in the first round, and a second boiler means nobody waits while the first one is refilled and reheats. Order around 20% more cups than guests, because people put a cup down and pick up a clean one.
A typical list from us looks like this, priced for a 2-day hire ex VAT:
That's £279.44 of equipment, and standard cleaning is already included in those prices. WA8 delivery and collection is £100, so the total is £379.44 ex VAT, before VAT and the refundable deposit. Half the equipment hire would be under £140, so the deposit here is the £100 minimum.
Plug each boiler into a different socket, ideally on a different circuit, and not both into one extension lead. Ask the hall which sockets share a circuit. If the wake is somewhere with no power at all, the 20-litre LPG gas water boiler does the same job off a bottle. For plates and sandwich platters, our sizing guide gives quantities per guest.
About £1,049 ex VAT, including WA8 delivery and collection, for the list below. Here it is line by line, using our 2-day hire prices.
The party is 80 guests in a garden in Appleton. A hog roast is the main event, with salads on platters, a bar run by the family, and tea and coffee later in the evening.
Equipment hire comes to £949.14. Standard cleaning is already built into every one of those prices, so there's no cleaning line to add. The hog roast puts the load in the Luton, and WA8 is still £100 for delivery and collection. That gives £1,049.14 ex VAT. Gas for the hog roast is charged separately, and the security deposit would be £474.57 (half the equipment hire), refunded within 7 working days of the kit coming back.
Glass counts follow a simple rule. Two glasses per guest for the main drink, because people lose track of theirs, then a smaller number for everything else. A summer weekend is peak, so the quote may be higher than these base prices. Use the event planner to build your own version.
Pick on headcount and how you want to serve. A hog roast feeds a crowd from one machine, a griddle suits burgers and sausages cooked to order, and paella is cooked in one go and served from the pan. All of our outdoor cooking kit is on the outdoor cooking page.
All our LPG equipment comes with a regulator. The gas itself is charged separately, and a 19kg Calor bottle is on the list if you need one. Keep the bottles outside the gazebo, upright, and away from where children run about.
Every one of these goes in the Luton, so send us photos of the route from the road to where it will stand. A side gate narrower than the machine, or steps down to a lower lawn, are the usual problems. We deliver, unload and collect; we don't set up or run the cooking.
For anything open to the public in Widnes, such as a fair on a park or a food stall at a community event, expect to deal with Halton Borough Council's events safety group as well as the usual licensing rules. Sort these before you book the kit.
On the kit side, a park stall usually needs a hand-wash station as much as a cooker. The Burco portable refillable hand-wash sink (£108.75) needs no plumbing. Add a fire blanket, an extinguisher and a first aid kit, which are on our catering and beverage page.
It can be, so book early for the August bank holiday. Creamfields is held at Daresbury, across the river in WA4 in the Borough of Halton, over that weekend. It's been there since 2006 and has a capacity of 70,000 a day.
That isn't our job and we don't claim it. The effect on you is indirect. Bank holidays are peak dates, so they're priced higher on the quote, and the whole area is busy at once with garden parties, family events and the festival traffic south of the river. If your event is on that weekend, get your list to us as early as you can.
Widnes deliveries stay on the north bank. A WA4 address is a different job: it usually means a Mersey crossing, with any toll passed on at cost, and at 15 miles the Luton goes above the minimum. Delivery and collection there come to £120 in the Luton and £100 in the small van.
For a small order, often yes. Collecting from L27 0YA is by appointment and carries no delivery charge, and from Widnes it's a short drive. For anything heavy, let us bring it.
Self-collection saves the £100 delivery figure, so it makes sense for a few boxes of crockery, cutlery and glassware that fit in a car or an estate. It doesn't make sense for a hot cupboard, a fridge or a hog roast. These are heavy and awkward, and the Luton's tail-lift exists for a reason.
Whichever way it travels, returns work the same. Scrape the plates and empty the glasses. Pack everything back in its crates, with glassware sorted by type into the right racks. You don't need to wash anything, and you shouldn't wash the linen; just keep it dry. Kit that comes back mixed or loose may be charged for sorting at £18 an hour plus VAT.
Booking works like this. You pay 25% to book and the balance 7 days before handover. There's a refundable security deposit of half the equipment hire, minimum £100 and normally no more than £500. The earliest you can book online is 3 days out. The full terms are on our hire terms page, and you can get in touch from the contact page or on WhatsApp at 07506 232976.
About 6 road miles to the middle of WA8. We're at Unit 16, Wheathill Industrial Estate, Holt Lane, Netherley, Liverpool L27 0YA, and we stay on the north side of the Mersey all the way. Hale and the Prescot side are nearer still, at about 4 miles. A delivery to Widnes is a short local run, and the quote is worked out from the actual route to your address.
No, not normally. Widnes is on the same side of the river as our depot, so the van doesn't use the Mersey Gateway or the Silver Jubilee Bridge. The toll only comes into it if you're south of the river, in Runcorn or Daresbury for example. There any toll is passed on at cost. Parking or permit charges at a venue are also passed on at cost, wherever you are.
Often, yes. The earliest you can book online is 3 days before the date. For anything sooner, ring 0151 230 1600 and choose option 2, or send a WhatsApp to 07506 232976, and we'll tell you what's free. A wake list is usually boilers, cups and saucers, teapots and platters. You'll have a written quote within one working day.
It's £100 for delivery and collection either way. Cronton comes under WA8 with Widnes, and its neighbours Prescot, Whiston and Rainhill are in L35. Both districts are between 4 and 6 miles from Netherley, well inside the £50-per-visit minimum. The same applies to Hale in L24 and to Penketh or Great Sankey in WA5. Send us the full postcode and the quote will show the exact figure.
One 90cm pan and one 70cm pan. The 90cm pan makes 100 portions and the 70cm makes 50. Each needs its own LPG ring burner: the 70cm burner for the 90cm pan and the 50cm burner for the 70cm pan, £50.75 each. The pans are £40.50 and £27.00. There's a lid for the 70cm pan at £8.10. Gas is charged separately, and the regulator comes with the burner.
Yes, as long as the van can get to a door. Tell us where the van can stop, and send photos of door widths, steps and any lift. Heavy kit such as hot cupboards and fridges comes in the Luton with a tail-lift, and we unload it. Loading and unloading time is £12.50 per started half hour, so a long carry from the car park shows on the quote. We don't set up tables or lay places.
The security deposit is half the equipment hire ex VAT, with a minimum of £100 and normally no more than £500. It's refundable, and it comes back within 7 working days of the kit being returned. It's separate from the 25% booking payment and from the balance, which is due 7 days before handover.
No. Standard cleaning is included in the price. Scrape the plates, empty the glasses and pack everything back in its crates, with each type of glass in its own rack. Don't wash the linen; just keep it dry and bag it. If glasses or cutlery come back loose or mixed between crates, we may charge for sorting at £18 an hour plus VAT.
WA7 from 9 miles: £100 delivery and collection in either van, plus the bridge toll at cost. Frodsham and Helsby too.
WarringtonWA1 to WA5 from £100 delivery and collection, no toll on most routes. Lymm (WA13) and Birchwood too.
LiverpoolOur depot is in Netherley, L27. Delivery and collection from the city centre out to Aintree is £100 ex VAT.
