Questions

The things people always ask.

Delivery, cleaning, booking, breakages. If your question is not here, ask us and we will answer it — and probably add it.

Delivery & collection

What does delivery cost?

Delivery and collection are two separate visits. Each is priced on the road miles from our depot at L27 0YA to you and back: £1.50 a mile in the Citroën Dispatch, or £2.00 a mile in the Citroën Relay Luton with tail-lift for ovens, fridges and bigger loads, with a minimum of £50 per visit. So 10 miles away is two visits at £50 each. Parking, tolls, permits and zone charges are added at cost. The delivery page has a postcode checker.

Can I collect it myself?

Yes, and there is no delivery charge at all if you do. Collection and return are from L27 0YA by appointment, in a suitable enclosed vehicle, at the times confirmed on your quote.

How far do you go?

Liverpool, the Wirral, Runcorn, Cheshire and across the North West. Further afield is usually possible — send us the postcode and we will price it.

Do you set the equipment up?

Loading, unloading and any waiting on site are charged at £12.50 for every started half hour (our driver rate is £25 an hour), on the delivery visit and on the collection visit.

Why do you need photos of the access?

Ovens, fridges, hot cupboards and bars are heavy and wheeled. Door widths, steps and where the van can stop decide how many people we send and how long it takes. It is much cheaper to find out a week early than on the morning.

Hygiene & cleaning

Do I have to wash anything up?

No. Standard cleaning is included in the price, with a minimum cleaning charge of £25 per order — on a small order your list shows the top-up. Please empty liquids, scrape off food and pack everything back in its crates, with glassware sorted by type into the right racks and boxes, and cooking equipment drained and cool. Kit returned mixed or loose can be charged for the extra sorting time (£18 an hour plus VAT). See clause 11 of the hire terms.

How does equipment arrive?

Crockery and cutlery are washed and counted, glassware comes in padded crates, and linen is laundered, pressed and bagged so it comes out ready to lay.

Is there a cleaning charge?

Standard cleaning is part of the price: 20% of the base hire (30% on heavy catering equipment). Exceptional cleaning — burnt-on deposits, wax, mould or contamination beyond normal use — is charged only for the reasonable extra work, at a rate disclosed before booking.

Booking & stock

How do I book?

Build a hire list on the site, pick your dates, and send it. We confirm availability and a final quote in writing within one working day. Nothing is charged until you accept it.

How far ahead should I book?

The earliest booking the site accepts is three days out. For a summer Saturday, or for the hog roast and paella kit, book as far ahead as you can — those go first.

Is everything always available?

No. Stock is finite and Saturdays are busy. That is why the site confirms availability against your dates rather than taking an order and hoping.

How is crockery and cutlery counted?

In tens. Glassware is by the crate — 24 for most glasses, 35 for the champagne flutes, 12 for gin balloons, martini glasses and champagne saucers.

Can I add to my order later?

Yes, subject to availability. Quote your booking reference and tell us as early as you can.

Payment & changes

What do the prices include?

Each price is for standard dates, for one 2-day hire, ex VAT, and includes the standard cleaning charge (20% of the hire price, or 30% on heavy catering equipment). Delivery, collection and loading time are priced separately from your postcode, and gas and consumables are extra. Summer, bank-holiday and Christmas dates cost more, and your quote shows the exact price. The hire terms have the detail.

Do you take a deposit?

Yes. A 25% booking payment secures your booking and the balance is due seven days before handover (bookings made within seven days of handover are paid in full). A separate refundable security deposit — 50% of the equipment hire excluding VAT, minimum £100 and normally no more than £500 — is paid before handover and returned within seven working days of the equipment coming back, less any properly payable charges. Nothing is taken when you send an enquiry or booking request.

What if I break something?

Breakages happen at every event and we expect a few. Anything lost or damaged beyond normal wear is charged at the reasonable cost of repair or like-for-like replacement, itemised with the evidence, and your security deposit can be used towards it. Where you are responsible for a missing or irreparable item we may also charge supplier delivery and handling labour at £18 an hour plus VAT, itemised and disclosed before booking. Ordinary wear and tear is not charged. It is worth hiring around 10% over your guest count on glassware and crockery for this reason.

Can I cancel or change the dates?

Email [email protected] as early as you can. Outside any statutory cancellation right, you pay only our reasonable net loss from the cancellation (non-recoverable costs and lost profit, less costs saved and any replacement booking), never more than the price of what was cancelled. Booking payments are applied to that figure and any excess is refunded within 14 days. See clause 13 of the hire terms.
